All the Good jobs are taken , Dammit

A short list has emerged for the position of president of Harvard University. The MassPube was not on it !

Go figure. I applied in plenty of time through Monster and I bet they didn't even look at the resume. It's an inexplicable move on their part. You'd think that being a resident of Massachusetts and a certified bonehead without qualfications would have cemented it.

See, Massachusetts is the state that appointed William J. Bulger as president of The University of Massachusetts. Bulger was the leader of the State Senate here for many years and basically is considered by many to be not quite on the up and up.

His brother, James "Whitey" Bulger has been on the FBI's Most Wanted List for years. Whitey, being a major murderer and a gangster , has been on the lam about ten years. Everyone seems to think that Billy knows where Whitey is and there is a slim possibility of indictment over this. And Billy seems to have played the political game in a true wheeler-dealer fashion and manner while in office. The brothers are pictured just below. The B on Billy's cap stands for Bulger. He wears it all the time and they still can't find him.

(There's a great book out on the subject called "The Brothers Bulger" by Howie Carr, Boston's #1 radio talk host, 3-7 each day on WRKO, 680 AM and a long time columnist for The Boston Herald. Nobody knows Boston like Howie does.)

It was pretty embarassing to have this non-academic become the university prez and he has since resigned and is getting about $50 gazillion dollars a year in pensions from the state.

If he can be a university president, why not The MassPube. But I guess my hopes are dashed. Onward and upward!

Hence, I also applied to be the Director of The Massachusetts Bio-Technology Council, the group that promotes and lobbies for biotech business in Massachusetts.

That position was held until yesterday by former Massachusetts House Speaker, Tom Finneran, who, last week, pleaded guilty to the felony charge of "obstruction of justice".

Though some members of the council still supported him just as though that didn't matter, he resigned yesterday. The job was worth over $400,000.00 a year and he will get over $100,000.00 severance. I was turned down for that too, as the worst I ever got was a traffic ticket and I did not qualify for any support at all.

Mr. Finneran fought to the end but he will probably lose his state pension, lose his law license and his right to vote. Now he regrets his actions and offers apologies right and left.

But there is still hope for him. Turns out that WRKO , Boston's big talk radio station, is still talking to him about hosting a major radio show at the station. Convicted felon, convicted schmelon. Who cares. Welcome to the radio business. Welcome to Massachusetts.

One flame still burns for me. I'm still waiting to hear from Home Depot as I hear their severance packages are excellent. Next time you buy some screws there, think about that perhaps they could lower the price if they hadn't given Tom Nardelli, their recently fired CEO, shown below ,

a $212 million dollar severance package for doing a bad job. He promises to buy a tie now that he can afford one for the next photo shoot. When I'm CEO, I'm raising the price of screws and asking for $300 million. Screw you!
